Merch Team - About Us
Merch Team enables independent music artists to offer great t shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts and caps to their fans, without any of the admin or up front costs usually associated with running a merch business.
Why is merch important?
For independent artists it is 'the' way to make money. The revenue you get from selling one t shirt is roughly equivalent to 5000 streams on a leading digital streaming platform.
In 2019, 76% of music was streamed, rather than purchased physically or downloaded. Buying t shirts, sweatshirts, hats and hoodies is the most direct way for fans to support their favourite artists.
Isn't running a merch operation difficult?
Setting up your own merch operation can be challenging. There's the cost of getting some awesome designs, and ensuring these designs have been created with merch in mind - speaking from experience, there's nothing worse than sending your artwork to a printer only to be told that it simply won't work as a t shirt print, and that you need to start over!
In addition, usually you'd have to commit to a minimum order quantity of at least 25 t shirts, which can require an upfront investment of at least $100-$150. Frustratingly, smaller order volumes also mean tighter margins and smaller returns - to make a decent profit, often you'd need to purchase in excess of 100 units up front; requiring an initial investment of $300-$400.
If you really want to capitalise on your merch, then you've then got to set up your own online store. There are a bunch of different providers out there who can do this for you, but will take 10% to process your payments and tell you when someone buys your merch. You still have to pack their order and ship it to them though.
Finally, there's the analysis and financial reporting. If you want to keep track of how much merch you sell, and what kinds of merch do really well, you'll need to keep spreadsheets of sales and be able to break down your sales data into actionable points, to make sure you order the right balance of product styles and sizes when you do your next merch run.

How does it work?
Put simply, we run the entire merch operation - from design, to running the online store, to liaising with suppliers, to sending merch orders to your fans and handling any enquiries, returns or complaints.
We work with you to set up a fully personalised web shop just for your merchandise. We can advise on how best to design your merch or, if you prefer, come up with some designs for you. We can advise on what kind of products to stock, and advise on your pricing strategy. All you need to do is promote your merch to your fan base!
How much does it cost?
Using our platform is free -there are no up front charges for setting up your web store or any ongoing service fees. We only make money when you make a sale, taking a percentage from each item sold.
We send you a monthly statement detailing exactly what you've sold and how much money you've made, dispersing the funds into you chosen bank account every month.
